Who won?
I called Fr. Timothy over and
explained why I couldn’t accept $500 worth of gift cards. He agreed to return them to Bob after the
game.
The next game was a
semi-final matchup with the team we had barely beaten in the regular season. The
game went into triple overtime. By the end, kids were moving at
half-speed. We used our timeouts to rest
players. Three of our ten players fouled
out.
We won, but the other team wasn’t
dejected. After the final buzzer, they
were smiling, laughing, and talking with our players about this play and that
play. We had a hard time herding the
teams together for the ritual postgame handshake line. They wished our kids good
luck in the finals, and left the gym excited about their season ending ice
cream/pizza party.
Sometimes
it’s not the score that tells if you if you’ve won or lost.
