54. Avoiding
Resistance
I went to an
AA meeting that night. The speaker was
on his third trip through recovery, having had five years sober twice
before. Both times he relapsed, he’d
tested his recovery by hanging out in a social club with a liquor license. He had wanted to ‘strengthen’ his recovery by
practicing resisting temptation.
“Now I look
for the strength to avoid rather than resist temptation,” he said. “So far it’s working.”
Today I
will look for the strength to avoid rather than resist temptation.
