I asked Dana if she thought, maybe, just maybe, she
overreacted a little when Katy said she was leaving.
“I’m still thinking of cutting you,” she said. I
knew she was joking. Probably.
I asked why she was so upset.
“Abigail died. Randy’s at corporate. Now Katy’s
leaving and taking Baby Cara with her. It’s just me, you, and DD the Bunny.”
I smiled. “Corporate will bring in new people.”
“I’m not gonna like them.”
“All day long we tell people to give recovery – something
new to them – a chance. Maybe you should give whoever they hire a chance.”
Dana glared at me for a second, then smiled. “OK,
but I’m not sharing our donuts with them until they prove they’re worthy.”
“You do that,” I said. “And maybe remember everyone
and everything you like was new to you at some point.”
Today
I’ll give something new a chance, knowing everything I like was new to me at
some point.
