Guardrails
The next morning I presented at a conference. Someone asked me about helping people put the
past in perspective.
I said, “I think of the past as a guardrail. I’m aware it’s there. It reminds me of the
pain, and warns me of danger.”
“That sounds a little depressing,” the person said.
“Not at all. I still get to enjoy the scenery. I move at my
own pace, and I like the places I’ve gone. I love the people on this journey
with me.”
Today I’ll treat the past like a guardrail.
