Horses, Pack Mules, Jackasses
Margaret went back to complaining about her ex.
“Don’t mistake your horse for a pack mule,” I said.
“You get weirder every day. What does that mean?” she asked.
“Get back on the horse, but don’t load it down with all your
anger, resentment, and frustration.”
“The horse is recovery?”
“The horse is anything you start over after things have gone
badly; recovery, business, dating, whatever.”
“I’m getting back on the horse. I’ll try not to treat her
like a pack mule. He’s still a jackass.”
“You’re doing it again,” I said.
Today I won’t treat the horse like a pack mule.
